Apparently Sen. Bill Frist isn't taking the Easter break off. He has been working on watering down the Immigration Bill during the break. He has been working with the Speaker Hastert to remove the felony provision from the House's Bill:
"…It remains our intent to produce a strong border security bill that will not make unlawful presence in the United States a felony", House Speaker Dennis Hastert and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist have said in a joint statement.
…Effectively compromising before Senate even passes their bill. Before this move, at least if the Senate passed a huge Amnesty bill, they would have to reconcile that bill with the the tough enforcement bill passed in the House. Now we may end up with a Amensty bill out of the Senate meeting a declawed enforcement bill from the House.
Frist hasn't stopped there, he is now promising a Senate bill that "that gives millions of illegal immigrants a chance at citizenship" (Boston Globe) by Memorial Day! Why so fast? Well the pro-illegals crowd wants to get this out of the news as soon as possible as more and more Americans are taking notice and the majority of American's are against Amnesty.
