Guest Writer Jeff: On Peeps

April 26th, 2004 | Category: Reference

I didn’t believe this at first because it apparently is only true with Bunny Peeps and not - uh - Peep Peeps.

If you still have any Peeps (Bunnies) left from Easter, look at the back of the packaging. Note the serving size, 4 bunnies (1 row): 31 grams. Next note Total Carbohydrates: 33 grams. Hmmmm…. I passed 4th grade, so I know that these are not equal. I’m not sure how they squeeze those 2 extra grams of sugar into the Peeps, but that must the secret to the Peep Magic. And it was written on the back all this time, right in front of our faces! You are now a much wiser person. Your welcome.

Da Vinci’s Clockwork Car

April 26th, 2004 | Category: Cars, Tech

Researchers have finally unlocked the secrets to a drawing of the first self propelled vehicle created by Leonardo Da Vinci 426 years ago. The vehicle was clockwork powered and may have been created for some very avant garde special effects.

  • Guardian Clockwork car with pic
  • CNN Clockwork car with picThere were some interesting comments about this article at Slashdot.org as people debated why Da Vinci “encrypted” his drawings and documents.

“Even a simplten with a mere IQ of 210 will be able to understand these drawings, no need to document”I saw somewhere that DaVinci purposely put flaws into his drawings as a type of copy protection. Only another genius would be able to see the flaw and build the device correctly. This would come in handy if his plans were stolen or captured since many of his designs were commissioned for siege craft. — Radial Rad

In fact, my experience is that only another genius would recognize that the work of a genius could have flaws that require correcting.
Most people are sheep and blindly follow “the directions,” even when those directions result in nonfunctioning items. They blame the nonfunctionality on themselves, rather than on the design.

  • Xscale Processor Explained

    April 25th, 2004 | Category: Reference, Tech

This was originially posted by reddragon on 6-09-2003 at PocketPCPassion.com

The Samsung chip is based on V4 of the Arm tech, this is the same as the StrongARM from Intel. Xscale is based on V5 of the Arm tech both from www.arm.com. Samsung has taken the V4 chip put it into a .13u process and put the ROM and main memory with the processor, so it’s an all in one chip design. Intel’s strongARM was a .32u process which caused it to draw more power. The Samsung chip will be faster than the old StrongARM chips and run with less power, but it will have none of the new code which is in the V5 Arm tech, so some of the new code in PPC2003 will not be taken advantage of due to the lack of processing capability. This is however not a bad thing as this is a beefier version of the V4 Arm chip. Only time will tell if it does pan out, so don’t make any judgments yet.

I Caught One And It Was THIS Big

Yesterday, I caught the biggest fish of my short, tender life: An 8lb. 13oz. monster. This was then followed by bagging a second 7 pounder, putting to rest any rumors of “fluke” or “luck” or “photoshop”. Many thanks to my Master Fishman Guide Tony.

Get Your Star Destoyer, Get ‘em While Their Hot

Someone with some skill and a LOT of time on their hands created a full size model of the Star Wars Stardestroyer. Made to be accurately sized to the 4 inch action figures, it's over 6 feet long and includes a host of features: The ship is completely covered over with removable panels and has been carefully detailed and weathered. The rear engines can be ignited with a simple push (they are push on/off lights). Although not entirely screen accurate (it would have been the length of my street for that) the distinctive shape is unmistakable. There are many different rooms including an armoury, bridge, cell bay, computer room, engineering (split over 2 levels), Darth Vader’s chamber, conference room, troop rest room, medical bay and more. The largest feature of the ship is the landing bay. The centre ramp lowers to the floor and can launch or capture any ship from an A-wing to the Millennium Falcon. The ramp was designed around the Millennium Falcon, to play that scenario if it were captured! Boasting 8 laser batteries an assault on this Star Destroyer would not last long and any escaping craft would be locked on with the tractor beam positioned on the very front. Then there is the hanger bay underneath the ship. 3 tie fighters can fit comfortably on the racks, ready to launch. There are many figure stands to support your troops located around the ship and over 33 seated positions.

  • DE-Motivators

    April 23rd, 2004 | Category: Fun n Games

Do you hate pithy sayings as much as i do? Some glib rhyming/motivational/alliterated/over-done/inane saying that is often matched with a picture in an attempt to add substence and authority to the “words of wisdom”. Many of these are now excedingly popular in the business realm. I mean, why motivate with a sense of purpose, or people’s paycheck, or even common goals when you can give out pretty, small posters (framed of course) instead?

Now apparently someone, with a similar disposition as my own, has gone out and turned this previous marketing genius on its head. Dispair.com has created a litany of sarcastic, jaded products for those of us not motivated by a sunset and the words like “the value of hard earned money” (which incidently is the EXACT same value of money that was easy to come by). Some examples of their creations are listed below.

Until recently, exercising your face required - well - some interesting efforts, such as, over-enunciating you vowels over and over, but NO MORE! Now you can get that same great work out in a new bizzare way: the Facial Gym! And apparently I’m going to have to add a new topic that encompasses all the bizzare stuff I have been finding lately.

    Banana Guard

    April 21st, 2004 | Category: Bizarre

That’s right banana guard. It guards your banana. No really, your BANANA. Apparently squished banana’s in lunches has become quite a problem or perhaps the market for difficult to manufacture products is a bit to saturated right now. Anyway, it comes in a variety of colors and even a glow in the dark model (for a $1 more, of course).
