Tivo Series 3

The new Tivo Series 3 (HD capable) just got a step closer to reality. A Cable Labs certification allows devices to be sold as compliant with all the various applicable cable standards. Basically it’s the step before FCC approval for cable devices.

Personally I just can’t get truely excited about HD until its everywhere. Don’t get me wrong the difference in picture quality is amazing. But paying extra and adding yet another remote to the stack all so I can have 3-10% of my channels HD — na I’ll pass. Text me when the broadcasters catch up to the electronics.

Telegraph?

“Effective January 27, 2006, Western Union will discontinue all Telegram and Commercial Messaging services” – WesternUnion.com

That’s right, no more telegraphs. While at first this seems hilarious that it took until 2006 to kill the telegraph — you know, now that high-speed internet connections are generally available to cellular phones… On the other hand, it kinda makes me sad that it’s gone. I mean if I had know that telegraphs were still around last month, I would have gone and sent a few just for the nostalgia of it. Ok so nostalgia probably isn’t the best word, but you know what I mean… It’s like riding on a train or something (who still uses trains?)

  • Western Union abandons telegramsUPDATE: Apparently quite a few telegrams were sent on January 27th… All in the attempt to be the last telegram in history.
  • Steam Powered Crab

What's better than Radio Controlled Toys? STEAM POWERED RC Toys! Steam powered tanks, crabs, and other things. Their speed is not exactly like a Nitro RC… or even 9.6V Nicad from Radio Shack. But hey it's steam and that means: fire. Oh yeah, check out the vids and watch for the flame. This is honest to goodness steam power. Sweet.

    MIT’s Stackable Cars

Four years in the making, a new type of stackable car design is about to be finalized by it’s MIT developers. The car is designed to help big cities cope with the age old problem of traffic congestion — at least until we can all afford Segways.Of course this design is so revolutionary it may extend beyond the big city to the rest of us. I know that I’m always looking for a sweeter ride to get me around the back nine. :D
